Silicon Sentier is involved in R&D projects as a mediator between project managers and users. Silicon Sentier implements solutions that allow project managers to evaluate their service and identify potential users’ needs, thus promoting the innovation and collaboration of small-businesses and start-ups in the Ile-de-France region.
By encouraging cooperation between participants from diverse backgrounds (regional authorities, various companies, artists and potential users), Silicon Sentier fosters an open culture and social networking by involving users in the various stages of project development. Mediation between stakeholders and potential users also extends to communities of practices (i.e. the community of developers), which enables project managers to market their product, all the while earning returns from professional peers. Both La Cantine (as a center for experimentation) and Silicon Sentier (as an associative strucure) aim to connect innovative projects with potential users and different communities of practices
As a “living labs” project, the experimental project of wireless Internet services in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris – Quartier Digital – has become iconic in the history of the association and essential in the construction of its innovative and open approach. The R&D branch of Silicon Sentier now comprises six main projects: Quartier Digital, Ink, Turbulence, THD, Tablets & Seniors, and Sociogeek.
Silicon Sentier is involved in these projects on three levels:
- Coordination (resource management, governance, and partnerships)
- Experimentation (observation of usages and needs / organization of user panels, beta-tests, questionnaires / event planning.
- Communication (press relations / distribution)
